Maryport Golf Course tower 22a is a Roman fortification forming part of the coastal defence system constructed along the Cumbrian littoral during the later imperial period. Located approximately 350 metres north of the Cemetery Chapel within the modern golf course complex, this tower represents the strategic network of small coastal installations built to protect the north-western frontier of Roman Britain. The structure belongs to the sequence of defensive towers erected to guard against seaborne threats and raiding during the third and fourth centuries AD. Though substantially reduced from its original form, the monument remains of archaeological significance as evidence of Rome's investment in coastal security along the Solway Firth approaches.
