The Medieval settlement and park pale at East Lulworth is a scheduled ancient monument comprising the earthwork remains of a medieval settlement together with a pale, or substantial boundary bank, that enclosed a medieval park. The settlement evidence, visible as platform remains and field boundaries, dates to the medieval period and represents occupation and land use typical of rural Dorset communities. The park pale itself constitutes a significant linear earthwork that would have served to define and control access to parkland, a landscape feature characteristic of medieval elite land management. The monument demonstrates the integration of settlement, agricultural practice, and recreational use that characterized medieval rural estates in southern England.
