Overview

History & significance

Mendham Priory is a Cluniac priory located in the parish of Mendham in Suffolk, founded in the early twelfth century. The priory was established as a dependency of the Norman monastery of Eye in Suffolk and operated throughout the medieval period until its dissolution during the Reformation in the sixteenth century. The surviving remains consist of fragmentary stone and brick structures, including elements of the conventional buildings scattered across the site, which retains earthwork features indicative of its former layout and function.
