Michelham Priory is a medieval Augustinian priory located near Hailsham in East Sussex, founded in the late twelfth century. The priory survives today as substantial ruins and standing structures, including elements of the church, domestic buildings, and distinctive defensive features such as the surrounding moat, which reflects both its monastic purpose and medieval concern for security. Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the sixteenth century, the site was adapted for domestic use, with later buildings constructed within the precinct. The priory remains an important example of a medium-sized English Augustinian house and preserves significant architectural evidence of medieval monastic life.
