The Minor Romano-British villa, moat and associated medieval manorial and village earthworks in Nottinghamshire is a palimpsest monument combining occupation and settlement activity spanning from the Roman period through the medieval era. The site preserves the remains of a Romano-British villa from the early imperial period, overlain by later medieval features including a substantial moat defining a manorial enclosure, village earthworks representing former domestic settlement, and six fishponds arranged within the wider landscape. The fishponds, characteristic of medieval aristocratic landholding, demonstrate the intensification of the site's exploitation during the later medieval period. The surviving archaeological earthworks provide evidence of continuity and change in land use and settlement patterns across more than a thousand years of English history.
