The moated site at Allexton is a medieval residential monument located in Leicestershire. The site comprises a substantial rectangular moat which once enclosed a domestic settlement, typical of the defensive and status-bearing enclosures constructed by minor gentry and substantial landholders during the medieval period. The earthwork remains visible as a series of banks and ditches defining the former moat circuit. Such moated sites became increasingly common from the 12th century onwards and continued in use through the later medieval period, reflecting both practical defensive considerations and the desire to establish a clear physical boundary around a residence of social standing.
