Mohun Castle is a Norman motte-and-bailey castle situated in Dorset, dating to the twelfth century. The site comprises an earthen mound with an associated bailey, representing a common form of fortification in post-Conquest England. The castle was established by the Mohun family, Norman lords who held substantial lands in Devon and Dorset following 1066. The monument survives today principally as earthwork remains, preserving the characteristic defensive layout of an early medieval aristocratic stronghold, though no substantial masonry structures are evident.
