Moot Hill is an artificial mound located approximately 100 metres north-east of Scone Palace in Perthshire, Scotland, and served as a royal assembly place of considerable political importance in medieval Scotland. The mound, which rises some 6 metres above the surrounding ground, is believed to have been constructed in the early medieval period and functioned as a gathering place for the Scottish kings and nobility, most notably serving as the site of royal inaugurations and parliaments. Scone Abbey, which stood adjacent to this royal site, was founded in the early twelfth century and became one of Scotland's most significant ecclesiastical centres, housing the Stone of Destiny until its removal in 1296 by Edward I of England. The combination of the ceremonial mound and the abbey reflected Scone's unique status as both a spiritual and secular centre of royal authority in medieval Scotland.
