The site comprises a motte and bailey earthwork of Norman origin, likely dating to the eleventh or twelfth century, together with the remains of a chapel and post-medieval domestic occupation including a house with associated garden features. The motte itself represents a significant example of early medieval defensive architecture characteristic of the Norman period in the Welsh Marches. The survival of multiple occupation phases at the site, from its initial castle construction through subsequent post-medieval habitation, provides evidence of continuous or renewed settlement across several centuries.
