The site comprises two earthen mounds and a scatter of worked flint and pottery spanning the neolithic and bronze age periods. The site sits upon Palaeogene extrusive rocks, a volcanic bedrock of mafic lava and tuff that underlies this part of the Larne peninsula. This hard igneous substrate would have presented early settlers with abundant stone suitable for tool manufacture, evidenced by the flint scatters recovered across the site. The proximity to the coast provided access to marine resources, a critical factor in settlement choice during the neolithic period.
The survival of both earthwork mounds and surface finds indicates a location that escaped intensive later agricultural improvement. The pottery and flint assemblages suggest repeated or sustained occupation during the earlier prehistoric period, making this site significant for understanding neolithic and bronze age settlement patterns in northeast Ulster.
