Mounsey Castle is a motte and bailey castle situated in Somerset, England. The site comprises a substantial earthwork mound with an associated outwork located approximately one hundred metres to the north, typical of Norman defensive architecture from the eleventh or twelfth century. The castle represents a form of military fortification characteristic of the post-Conquest period, constructed from earth and timber rather than stone. The survival of both the primary mound and the secondary outwork provides evidence of the castle's layout and strategic design during the medieval period.
