History & significance

The barrow 650m south-west of Riby Grove Farm is a Neolithic long barrow and Bronze Age round barrow in Lincolnshire, England. The site represents two distinct periods of burial practice, with the earlier Neolithic long barrow indicating funerary activity during the fourth millennium BC, whilst the later Bronze Age round barrow overlay or was constructed near the original monument, reflecting the continued ritual significance of the location during the second millennium BC. Such palimpsestic monuments are characteristic of important burial landscapes where sacred sites were reused and reactivated across multiple periods. The survival of both structural phases at this location provides evidence of how Bronze Age communities engaged with and inherited the monumental landscape created by their Neolithic predecessors.
