History & significance

This monument is a Neolithic long barrow with a superimposed Bronze Age round barrow, located approximately 370 metres south-west of Boucherette Farm in Lincolnshire. The long barrow represents settlement and burial practices of the Neolithic period, whilst the Bronze Age round barrow, constructed later on the same site, reflects changing funerary customs of the subsequent prehistoric era. The overlying of the Bronze Age round barrow upon the Neolithic long barrow demonstrates continuity of ritual significance at the location across more than a thousand years of prehistory. The monument survives as an earthwork and constitutes an important record of the monumental landscape and burial practices spanning the Neolithic and Bronze Age periods in the East Midlands region.
