Newbigging enclosure is a post-medieval earthwork situated approximately 400 metres north-east of Newbigging in Midlothian, Scotland. The enclosure represents a modest agricultural feature of the period following the medieval era, preserved as a scheduled monument under Historic Environment Scotland's designation SM6265. Its form and scale are typical of the enclosed fields and smallholdings that characterised rural settlement patterns in the Central Belt during the early modern period.
The monument rests upon the Scottish Coal Measures Group, a geological formation of Moscovian age that underlies much of this region. The bedrock comprises alternating layers of mudstone, siltstone and sandstone interspersed with seams of coal and ironstone, overlain by ferricrete deposits.
