Newstead Roman military complex is a substantial auxiliary fort situated in the Scottish Borders near the River Tweed. The site was occupied during the Roman military campaigns in northern Britain, particularly during the Flavian period in the late first century AD and again in the second century during the Antonine occupation. The fort comprises multiple ditches, ramparts, and internal structures typical of Roman auxiliary installations, which have been extensively excavated and studied since the nineteenth century. The archaeological remains demonstrate the strategic importance of the location in controlling the frontier zone of Roman Scotland.
