Norwood Castle is a motte and bailey castle situated approximately one hundred metres north of Dean Farm in Wiltshire. The site comprises a substantial motte with an associated bailey, representing a typical form of Norman fortification dating to the eleventh or twelfth century. The earthwork survives in relatively good condition, demonstrating the characteristic two-part defensive structure whereby the raised mound would have supported a wooden or stone keep, whilst the bailey provided an outer enclosure for domestic and military functions. As a scheduled monument, Norwood Castle represents an important example of early medieval military architecture in the region.
