Offa's Dyke is a linear earthwork of 8th-century date constructed under the direction of King Offa of Mercia, forming a substantial boundary between his kingdom and the Welsh territories to the west. This 400-yard section east of Llawnt in Shropshire represents a portion of the larger dyke system, which extends intermittently for approximately 80 miles along the Welsh border. The earthwork consists of a substantial bank with an accompanying ditch, surviving as a prominent linear feature in the landscape that demonstrates the scale of engineering undertaken in the Anglo-Saxon period. The preservation of this section contributes to understanding the extent and construction of one of Britain's most significant early medieval monuments.
