Offa's Dyke is a linear earthwork running across this section of the Shropshire landscape, forming part of the extensive defensive frontier constructed during the reign of King Offa of Mercia in the late eighth century. The monument here comprises a substantial bank and ditch alignment, characteristic of the dyke's construction technique, extending some 430 metres north-east of Middle Knuck Farm. This particular stretch represents one of many surviving sections of what was originally a much longer boundary work, stretching across the Welsh marches and demonstrating the considerable engineering resources available to the Mercian kingdom. The earthwork dates to approximately the second half of the eighth century and remains a significant testament to early medieval territorial demarcation and the political geography of Anglo-Saxon Britain.
