Okehampton Roman fort is a Roman auxiliary fort located on Dartmoor in Devon, situated at approximately 320 metres elevation on the north-western edge of the moor. The fort dates to the late first and second centuries AD and served as a military installation during the Roman occupation of Britain, occupying a strategically important position within the Exeter to Nanstallon road network. The site comprises the fort itself, associated fortlet structures, and ancillary enclosures, with earthwork remains visible across the landscape indicating the characteristic defensive ditches and ramparts typical of Roman military architecture. The fort was occupied for a limited period before being abandoned, reflecting the broader patterns of Roman military repositioning and withdrawal on the periphery of the Exeter administrative district.
