Old Boarzell moated site is a medieval moated enclosure located approximately 100 metres north-east of Swiftsden Farm in Little Swiftsden, Sussex. The site comprises the remains of a substantial moat, a characteristic feature of medieval domestic and manorial settlement in southern England, typically dating to the twelfth to sixteenth centuries. Moated sites of this type served both defensive and drainage purposes, protecting the timber-framed or stone dwellings of their occupants whilst managing water around the homestead. The monument's survival as an earthwork testament to medieval settlement patterns in the Sussex Weald makes it significant for understanding the evolution of rural medieval society in the region.
