Old Coal Pits, Blaenavon is a post-medieval and modern industrial air shaft located in Blaenavon, Monmouthshire, Wales. The site forms part of the extensive coal mining landscape that developed in the Blaenavon area from the late eighteenth century onwards, when the region became a significant centre of coal extraction and iron production. The air shaft would have functioned as a ventilation structure essential to underground mining operations, allowing fresh air to circulate through the mine workings and enabling the safe extraction of coal at depth.
