Old Lochnaw Castle is a fifteenth-century fortress located on the Isle of Lochnaw in Wigtownshire, south-western Scotland. The castle represents a significant example of late medieval defensive architecture in the region, constructed during a period of considerable Scottish baronial power. The structure occupies a naturally defensive island position within Lochnaw, which afforded strategic advantages for controlling the surrounding landscape and waters. Though now ruinous, the castle remains an important archaeological monument illustrating the military and domestic arrangements of a substantial medieval Scottish holding.
