History & significance

Part of the Dartmeet coaxial field system and other archaeological remains on Holne Moor west and north west of Venford Reservoir is a prehistoric field system and associated archaeological features located on Dartmoor in Devon. The coaxial field system, characterised by parallel land divisions that create a distinctive geometric pattern, dates to the Bronze Age and represents evidence of early agricultural organisation and land management. The remains visible on the moor include field boundaries, associated earthworks, and scattered archaeological deposits that form part of the wider Dartmeet system, one of the most significant Bronze Age field complexes on Dartmoor. These monuments provide important archaeological evidence for the organisation of settlement and farming practices during the Bronze Age period on the high moorland.
