Pillow mound 100m south east of Great Trowlesworthy Tor is a medieval artificial warren feature forming part of Trowlesworthy Warren on Dartmoor, Devon. The structure dates from the medieval period, when such earthworks were constructed to manage populations of rabbits, which were valuable resources for meat and fur. Pillow mounds are characterised by their distinctive elongated, flattened-topped form, created by heaping soil and stone to provide suitable habitat for rabbit burrows. This example preserves evidence of the medieval land management practices that transformed parts of Dartmoor into productive warrens controlled by local landholders.
