Pillow mound 100m south east of Great Trowlesworthy Tor is a medieval earthwork forming part of Trowlesworthy Warren on Dartmoor in Devon. The feature is an artificial underground warren constructed to manage populations of rabbits, which were valued as a source of meat and fur during the medieval period. Such pillow mounds, characterised by their distinctive raised, elongated form, typically date from the twelfth to sixteenth centuries and represent a significant phase of landscape management on Dartmoor. The mound's survival within the Trowlesworthy Warren complex provides important archaeological evidence of medieval land use and the commercial exploitation of wild game in the region.
