Humbleton Hill is a prehistoric and medieval archaeological complex in Northumberland containing evidence of occupation spanning multiple periods. The site features an Iron Age hillfort, identifiable by its defensive earthwork ramparts and enclosure, representative of the fortified settlements constructed across northern Britain during the first millennium BCE. Prehistoric enclosed settlement remains on the hill indicate earlier occupation during the prehistoric period, whilst medieval shielings, the temporary pastoral structures used during summer grazing seasons, demonstrate the site's continued use in later centuries. The monument thus preserves a substantial record of human settlement and land use across at least two millennia of northern English history.
