The site comprises the remains of agricultural infrastructure characteristic of Romano-British farming communities in Northumberland, including field boundaries and settlement features that demonstrate the continuation of agricultural practice during the Roman occupation. The physical layout and artefactual evidence indicate a modest farming establishment serving local subsistence and possibly surplus production during the Roman imperial period. The survival of the field system alongside the farmstead provides evidence for the organization of Romano-British agricultural land use in this upland region of northern Britain.
