Rookyard Farm Moats is a scheduled ancient monument in Suffolk comprising the remains of a medieval moated enclosure. The site consists of substantial earthwork moats that define a rectangular or near-rectangular layout, characteristic of high-status medieval farmsteads and minor manorial sites of the twelfth to sixteenth centuries. Such moated sites were common throughout East Anglia during the medieval period, serving both defensive and status-signalling functions whilst also providing practical drainage and protection for livestock and stored goods. The survival of the moat earthworks at Rookyard Farm provides archaeological evidence of the settlement patterns and land management practices of medieval Suffolk.
