Overview

History & significance

Roughtor parallel reave is a Bronze Age field system located on Bodmin Moor in Devon, England. The monument consists of parallel lines of stone walls or boundaries, characteristic of reave systems that divided the moorland landscape during the later Bronze Age, approximately 1500–700 BCE. Such reaves represent some of the earliest large-scale, organized land division in Britain and provide important evidence for Bronze Age agriculture, settlement patterns, and social organization. The parallel reave at Roughtor survives as a substantial example of this landscape type, with its linear stone alignments still visible across the moorland terrain.
