Associated with the barrow cemetery is evidence of contemporary or near-contemporary field systems, indicating settlement and agricultural activity in the immediate vicinity during the Bronze Age. The monument survives as surface earthworks and subsurface archaeological deposits within the Marlborough Downs landscape, an area rich in prehistoric remains.
