Roundlaw is a Roman signal station situated in Perthshire, Scotland, approximately 610 metres south-west of Roundlaw itself. The site stands on bedrock of the Arbuthnott-Garvock Group, a Pragian formation comprising sandstone interlayered with conglomerate, siltstone and mudstone, geology that would have offered a reasonably stable foundation for the station's construction.
As a signal station rather than a fort, Roundlaw formed part of the Roman military communications network that extended into northern Britain during the occupation period. Such installations typically comprised a small stone or timber tower with an open or lightly defended platform, designed to relay visual signals between larger military installations across the landscape.
