Sea Brows is a milefortlet forming part of the Roman coastal defence system constructed along the Cumbrian coast during the second century AD. Located approximately 500 metres south-west of Bank End in Cumberland, this fortification is designated as milefortlet 23 within the chain of installations that protected the north-western frontier of Roman Britain. The site represents the Roman military's strategic response to coastal vulnerability during the later Antonine period, when renewed consolidation of the northern frontier occurred. As a scheduled ancient monument, Sea Brows preserves archaeological evidence of Rome's extensive fortification programme along this exposed stretch of coastline.
