Seal Cottage Midden is a Mesolithic shell midden located 350 metres west-south-west of Seal Cottage on the island of Oronsay in Argyllshire, Scotland. The site represents evidence of human settlement and subsistence practices dating to the Mesolithic period, when coastal communities exploited marine and shellfish resources. Oronsay's middens are amongst the most significant Mesolithic deposits in Scotland, preserving substantial accumulations of shell refuse that document the dietary preferences and seasonal occupation patterns of post-glacial hunter-gatherer populations. The midden's composition and stratigraphic record provide archaeological evidence for understanding the economic strategies and environmental interactions of Mesolithic communities in the western Scottish islands.
