Section of the north Oxfordshire Grim's Ditch and a section of Akeman Street Roman road immediately south east of North Lodge in Blenheim Great Park is a scheduled ancient monument comprising two distinct linear features of different periods within the landscape of Oxfordshire. Grim's Ditch is an Iron Age or Romano-British defensive earthwork consisting of a bank and ditch, whilst Akeman Street represents Roman road infrastructure dating from the first or second century AD, built to connect military and administrative centres. The presence of both features within Blenheim Great Park demonstrates the overlay of different periods of activity and settlement patterns across the region. The survival of these monuments within the parkland landscape provides evidence for pre-modern communication networks and territorial organisation in the Upper Thames valley.
