Seton West Mains is a post-medieval enclosed field system located approximately 500 metres southwest of Seton in East Lothian, Scotland. The enclosures represent the agricultural reorganisation and landscape improvement characteristic of the early modern period in lowland Scotland, when open field systems were progressively enclosed and rationalised by landowners. The field boundaries, defined by stone dykes or similar demarcation, reflect the consolidation of agricultural holdings and the shift towards more intensive farming practices during the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries. As a scheduled monument, the site preserves evidence of the practical implementation of agricultural change in the Scottish borders region during this transformative period of rural development.
