Shocklach Castle motte and moated enclosure is a Norman fortification located in Cheshire, England, dating to the medieval period following the Norman Conquest. The site comprises a motte, a raised earthwork serving as the defensive stronghold, surrounded by a moated enclosure which provided additional protection and demarcation of the castle precinct. Such motte and bailey structures were characteristic of early Norman military architecture in England, typically constructed in the eleventh and twelfth centuries to establish Norman authority and control over the landscape.
