Site of Malton Castle is a Norman motte-and-bailey fortress situated in Malton, North Yorkshire. The castle was established in the eleventh century following the Norman Conquest, with its earthwork defences comprising a prominent mound surrounded by a ditch system characteristic of early Norman military architecture. Although substantial earthworks remain visible, the castle site has yielded limited structural remains above ground, reflecting the considerable erosion of such fortifications over nearly a millennium. The monument represents a significant example of post-Conquest Norman settlement and defensive strategy in Yorkshire, though its precise constructional phases and date of abandonment remain subjects of archaeological investigation.
