Slapton Chantry College is a fourteenth-century foundation in Devon, established as an endowed religious institution to maintain priests for the performance of masses for the souls of its founders and benefactors. The college formed part of the wider network of chantry establishments that characterised late medieval piety and reflected the wealth and spiritual concerns of the Devon gentry. The surviving physical remains demonstrate the architectural character typical of such collegiate foundations, with structures arranged to serve both liturgical and residential functions. The site was dissolved during the sixteenth-century Reformation, when chantry colleges were suppressed as part of the systematic dismantling of intercessory religious institutions.
