Springfield palisaded enclosure and ring ditch is a post-medieval earthwork located two hundred metres east of Springfield in East Lothian, Scotland. The monument comprises a palisaded enclosure defined by a substantial ring ditch, representing a form of defensive or demarcatory structure that emerged during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The underlying geology of sandstone, siltstone and mudstone of the Inverclyde Group has influenced both the monument's preservation and the character of the local landscape.
The ring ditch would have served to delineate and fortify the enclosure, whilst the timber palisade—now visible only as archaeological features rather than standing structures—provided a physical barrier.
