St Michael's Priory rere-dorter is a substantial medieval latrine block forming part of the monastic complex at St Michael's Priory near Northampton. Dating from the twelfth or thirteenth century, the structure represents an important example of monastic sanitary provision during the High Middle Ages, when such purpose-built facilities became increasingly standardised in religious communities. The rere-dorter, positioned conventionally at the far end of the priory's dorter or dormitory range, demonstrates the architectural planning and engineering sophistication applied to monastic domestic arrangements. The surviving fabric preserves evidence of multiple latrine seats and drainage systems typical of its period, testifying to the scale and organisation of communal monastic life.
