The site encompasses the buried foundations of Tatton Old Hall, a substantial medieval residence, together with associated mill dam infrastructure and traces of the medieval settlement that once flourished in this location. Prehistoric settlement activity is also evidenced within the monument's extent, indicating continuity of habitation across several millennia. The remains survive largely as subsurface deposits and earthworks, representing an important record of the transition from medieval rural settlement patterns to the later landscaped estate that characterised the Tatton estate in subsequent centuries.
