The Mount is a motte and bailey castle situated in Bedfordshire, England. The site consists of a substantial earthwork comprising a raised mound, or motte, with an adjoining bailey, or outer enclosure, typical of Norman military architecture. The monument dates from the Norman period, representing the defensive and administrative structures established following the Norman Conquest of 1066. The earthwork remains an important surviving example of early medieval fortification in the county, demonstrating the characteristic two-part design that was prevalent across England during the eleventh and twelfth centuries.
