The Mount is a motte castle located approximately 200 metres west of Weston Farm near Weston-under-Lizard in Shropshire. The site comprises a substantial earthwork consisting of a raised mound characteristic of Norman motte-and-bailey fortifications, likely constructed in the eleventh or twelfth century. The castle represents a typical example of early medieval military architecture from the period following the Norman Conquest, when such fortified residences were established throughout England to consolidate control of conquered territory. The monument survives as an important archaeological and landscape feature demonstrating the settlement patterns and defensive strategies of Norman England.
