The Shene Charterhouse is a Carthusian monastery founded in 1415 by Henry V on the outskirts of Richmond, Surrey. The house followed the strict contemplative rule of the Carthusian order and became one of England's most important charterhouses before its dissolution in 1539. The surviving remains include substantial fragments of the monastic buildings, notably parts of the church, cloister ranges, and domestic structures that demonstrate the characteristic layout of a Carthusian community with its emphasis on individual cells for monks. The site represents a significant example of late medieval monastic archaeology and retains considerable historical importance as testimony to religious life in pre-Reformation England.
