The Tolgus arsenic works is a nineteenth-century industrial site situated south-east of East Tolgus House in Cornwall. The works represents the exploitation of arsenic as a by-product of tin and copper mining during the height of Cornwall's mining industry, when the region supplied significant quantities of arsenic to international markets. The site comprises the physical remains of processing facilities characteristic of arsenic calcining operations, where ore was roasted to extract the toxic mineral. Such works were integral to the broader Cornish mining economy of the 1800s, though they posed considerable environmental and occupational health hazards to workers and surrounding communities.
