Three pillow mounds 540m north east of sea mark on Ashey Down is a group of earthwork monuments consisting of three raised linear mounds situated on Ashey Down in Hampshire. These pillow mounds, which date to the medieval period, represent evidence of medieval rabbit warrening, a practice through which landowners intensively managed rabbit populations as a valuable source of meat and fur. The mounds themselves are characteristic of warren management systems, being constructed to provide suitable habitat and nesting sites for the rabbits that were commercially exploited on the estate. The site remains visible today as earthwork evidence of the medieval economy and the exploitation of natural resources by the landholding classes.
