Three pillow mounds adjacent to Longaford Tor is a post-medieval rabbit warren situated on the western slopes of Longaford and Littaford Tors in Devon. The monument consists of three earthwork mounds characteristic of artificially constructed warrens, which were managed landscapes created to breed rabbits as a valuable food resource from the medieval period onwards, with many expanding significantly during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The positioning of these mounds on the moorland slopes represents an outlying component of a larger warren complex, demonstrating the extent of exploitation of this upland terrain for rabbit husbandry. Such warrens were typically managed by a warrener and controlled through a combination of earthworks, including banks and ditches designed to contain the rabbit population while protecting it from predators.
