The site comprises two concentric defensive earthwork banks, characteristic of early Christian period settlement enclosures in Ulster, and dates to the early medieval period. As a rath, it represents a form of ringfort that served as a farmstead and residence for a person of some status within the early Christian Irish settlement hierarchy.
