Two prehistoric hilltop enclosures, a ditch system and four bowl barrows, 300m north of Barton Pines Inn is an ancient monument complex in Devon comprising overlapping features of Bronze Age and Iron Age date. The hilltop enclosures represent defensive or communal structures characteristic of later prehistoric settlement patterns in the South West, whilst the four bowl barrows indicate Bronze Age funerary practice and territorial use of the landscape. The associated ditch system, likely contemporary with one or more of the main structures, served functions of demarcation, drainage or defence. Collectively, these remains demonstrate sustained human occupation and ritual activity on this elevated location across the later prehistoric period.
