Ty'n-y-Celyn Castle Mound is a motte-and-bailey earthwork located in Wales, representing a form of Norman military architecture that became widespread following the Anglo-Norman conquest of Wales in the late eleventh and twelfth centuries. The site consists of a substantial mound typical of motte construction, which would have originally supported a timber palisade and defensive tower commanding the surrounding landscape. Such mottes served as instruments of territorial control and garrison points for Norman lords consolidating their hold over conquered Welsh lands. Though no standing stone structures remain, the earthwork's survival demonstrates the strategic importance of the site during the medieval period of Norman expansion into Wales.
