Waterbeach Abbey is a former Benedictine priory founded in the early twelfth century in Cambridgeshire, situated on low-lying fenland north of Cambridge. The priory was established as a cell dependent upon Crowland Abbey and developed into a substantial monastic community with associated landholdings across the region. Little survives above ground today, though archaeological evidence and historical records indicate the site once comprised a church, cloister ranges, and ancillary buildings characteristic of a functioning medieval monastery. The priory was dissolved during the Reformation in the sixteenth century, after which the site was largely abandoned, leaving only earthworks and subsurface remains visible to the modern observer.
